Karachi Extortion Network Operated from Iran, Says Sindh Home Minister Ziaul Hasan Lanjar

Karachi Extortion Network Exposed

The Karachi extortion network has been traced beyond Pakistan’s borders, with key operations reportedly being run from Iran, Sindh Home Minister Ziaul Hasan Lanjar revealed on Friday. Addressing a press conference in Karachi, the minister said the issue of extortion has become a major law and order concern, especially for the business community.

Lanjar assured that the Sindh government will not tolerate any group or network threatening Karachi’s traders, adding that coordinated action is being taken to curb such criminal activities. He described extortion as “a menace that directly impacts business confidence and peace in the province.”

Sindh Government Intensifies Crackdown

Speaking about the government’s response, Lanjar stated that law enforcement agencies are conducting a comprehensive operation against the Karachi extortion network.

“We will not permit extortionists to harass our business community,” he said. “Our priority is to restore traders’ confidence by ensuring their safety.”

The minister added that the government has established stronger coordination between the Sindh Police, Counter Terrorism Department (CTD), and intelligence agencies to dismantle the network’s structure.

According to Lanjar, several individuals involved in the racket have been identified, and four suspected extortionists have been killed in police encounters in recent weeks. He said that investigations are ongoing to trace additional operatives linked to the network operating from abroad.

Business Community’s Concerns Being Addressed

Lanjar emphasized that the government remains in constant contact with business associations and market representatives to ensure their protection.

“We are engaging directly with traders to understand their problems,” he said. “Their cooperation helps us act quickly and effectively against extortionists.”

The home minister reiterated that the government’s primary objective is to create a secure environment for business and investment in Karachi, Pakistan’s commercial capital. He also assured that the Sindh government is fully aware of how extortion impacts trade, particularly in sensitive market areas like Saddar, Tariq Road, and Bolton Market.

Investigations into Iran-Based Operations

Expanding on the international aspect of the Karachi extortion network, Lanjar confirmed that the Sindh Police have found evidence linking certain criminal operatives to Iran.
These operatives are allegedly orchestrating calls and threats to Karachi traders through local contacts. Authorities are now coordinating with federal and international agencies to trace cross-border financial transactions and communication channels associated with the network.

Lanjar assured that action will be taken under Pakistan’s anti-terrorism laws to bring these elements to justice. He noted that the government’s counter-extortion strategy includes not only law enforcement but also legislative measures and digital tracking of illegal funds.

Government’s Commitment to Restoring Peace

The Sindh Home Minister reaffirmed the government’s resolve to restore peace and economic stability in Karachi.

“Karachi is Pakistan’s financial heart, and we cannot allow criminal networks to damage its security or economy,” Lanjar said.

He emphasized that police patrols and intelligence operations have been increased in key commercial zones. Additionally, a dedicated helpline for reporting extortion cases has been launched to encourage business owners to come forward without fear.

Lanjar praised the Karachi Police for their recent successes and assured that the Sindh government will continue supporting law enforcement agencies with resources and coordination.

A Clear Message to Criminal Elements

The minister concluded by sending a strong message to those involved in the Karachi extortion network.

“Our message is clear: the government will hunt down every element linked to extortion—no matter where they are operating from,” he said.

He also encouraged the business community to stay vigilant and cooperate with authorities to ensure swift action against such threats.

With the Karachi extortion network now under active investigation, the Sindh government’s actions signal a firm stance on protecting Pakistan’s commercial hub from organized crime.
