Punjab to Form Independent Cyber Agency

The Punjab government has announced plans to create a provincial cyber agency to manage and respond to cyber threats independently. The decision comes after growing concerns over the inefficiency and slow response of the NCCIA in handling cybercrime cases affecting provincial institutions.

Focus on Digital Security and Governance

Officials said the new agency will be responsible for cybercrime investigations, data protection, and online surveillance related to government infrastructure. It will also provide technical support to law enforcement bodies and help secure provincial databases against hacking attempts.

High-Tech Infrastructure Planned

Sources revealed that the agency will be equipped with AI-powered monitoring systems and staffed with cybersecurity specialists. The provincial government plans to collaborate with universities and private IT firms to develop advanced cyber defense capabilities.

Accountability and Efficiency at Core

A senior Punjab official said the initiative reflects the government’s commitment to enhancing transparency, digital resilience, and technological autonomy. The new agency is expected to be fully operational after final cabinet approval.
