Strict Action Against Violators
The Punjab Environment Protection Department (EPD) and traffic police have launched a joint operation to curb vehicular pollution. Teams are stationed at key entry points and city roads to identify and fine vehicles emitting excessive smoke. In several districts, vehicles failing emission tests are being impounded on the spot.
Focus on Air Quality Improvement
Officials said the crackdown is part of the province’s anti-smog action plan, launched ahead of the winter season. The initiative seeks to reduce toxic emissions, control smog formation, and protect public health, particularly in Lahore, Faisalabad, and Gujranwala.
Public Awareness Campaign Launched
Authorities have also begun a public awareness drive, urging vehicle owners to ensure timely maintenance and avoid using substandard fuel. Citizens are encouraged to report heavily polluting vehicles through dedicated helplines.
