Strict Action Against Misuse
The Punjab government has ordered a province-wide operation to curb the misuse of the Kisan Card scheme, which provides farmers with easy access to loans and subsidies. Officials discovered that several ineligible individuals were exploiting the system through fake registrations and fraudulent claims.
District-Level Monitoring Teams Formed
According to the Agriculture Department, special monitoring teams have been established at the district level to conduct data verification and field audits. These teams are also tasked with identifying middlemen and traders misusing farmer credentials to obtain subsidies.
Government’s Objective
A spokesperson for the Punjab government stated that the goal is to restore transparency and accountability in the agricultural subsidy process. Genuine farmers will continue to receive financial support under the Kisan Card, while violators may face legal action.
Future Reforms Planned
The government is also planning to introduce digital verification systems and biometric authentication to prevent future misuse. Officials emphasized that these reforms will strengthen the province’s agricultural sector and ensure fair access to financial assistance.
