Punjab Government Crackdown on Unauthorized Loudspeaker Use
The Punjab Home Department has issued directives for a province-wide crackdown on unauthorized use of loudspeakers. Only one loudspeaker will be permitted for calls to prayer (Azaan) and official religious sermons, according to the Punjab Sound Systems Regulation Act.
Police Directed to Ensure Compliance
District police officers have been instructed to monitor mosques, markets, and public venues to ensure strict enforcement. Violators will face heavy fines, equipment confiscation, and possible arrest under provincial law.
A Step Toward Peace and Noise Control
Officials say the decision aims to reduce noise pollution, curb hate speech, and promote interfaith harmony. The Punjab government reiterated that maintaining peace and order remains a top priority, especially in sensitive urban and religious areas.
