Pak-Afghan Border Tensions Dominate High-Level Meeting
The ongoing Pak-Afghan border tensions were the central topic during a high-level meeting between President Asif Ali Zardari and Field Marshal and Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Asim Munir on Wednesday. The meeting, held at the President House in Islamabad, focused on Pakistan’s current political and security landscape, with special attention to the rising instability and military challenges along the Pakistan-Afghanistan frontier.
According to the official statement, both leaders discussed recent developments at the Pak-Afghan border, where several security incidents have increased regional concerns. General Asim Munir briefed the President on the Pakistan Army’s effective and timely response to cross-border provocations and emphasized that the military remains fully prepared to counter any threat to national sovereignty.
Army Chief Briefs President on Security Preparedness
General Munir detailed the Army’s operational readiness and ongoing efforts to maintain stability despite Pak-Afghan border tensions. He highlighted that Pakistan’s armed forces are closely monitoring the situation and taking defensive and diplomatic measures to ensure peace along the frontier.
The briefing also covered broader security developments in the region, including counter-terrorism operations, coordination with civilian authorities, and intelligence sharing to prevent potential infiltration or attacks. The Army Chief assured that Pakistan’s borders are secure, and any hostile attempt from across the border will be dealt with firmly and decisively.
President Zardari Praises Pakistan Army’s Professionalism
During the meeting, President Asif Zardari praised the professionalism, discipline, and dedication of the Pakistan Army in defending the homeland. He expressed full confidence in the strength, capability, and preparedness of the armed forces to handle the Pak-Afghan border tensions and other internal security challenges.
The President appreciated the army’s swift and effective response to cross-border violations, reaffirming that Pakistan’s national interests will always be protected. He also highlighted the importance of continued vigilance and unity between civil and military institutions to ensure national security amid an evolving regional environment.
Pakistan’s Sovereignty Remains Non-Negotiable
Reaffirming Pakistan’s stance, President Zardari stated that the country will not compromise on its sovereignty or territorial integrity under any circumstances. He emphasized that Pak-Afghan border tensions should be resolved peacefully through dialogue and cooperation, but Pakistan reserves the right to respond firmly to any act of aggression.
Zardari also called for enhanced coordination between government agencies and the military to strengthen border management and counter-terrorism measures. Both leaders agreed that maintaining peace and stability along the western frontier is vital for national and regional security.
Commitment to National Unity and Security
The meeting concluded with a renewed pledge by the civilian and military leadership to safeguard Pakistan’s borders, strengthen national unity, and promote stability in the region. The Pak-Afghan border tensions, they agreed, must not be allowed to hinder Pakistan’s progress or its commitment to peace.
Both the President and the Army Chief reaffirmed that Pakistan will continue to play a constructive role in promoting stability in South Asia while ensuring that its national sovereignty remains fully protected.
