Global food and beverage giant Nestlé has confirmed that it will lay off 16,000 employees worldwide as part of a strategic shift toward artificial intelligence (AI) and automation technologies. The company says the move aims to enhance production efficiency, minimize operational delays, and modernize its business processes.

Nestlé’s management emphasized that the transition is part of a long-term plan to adopt smart manufacturing and automated logistics systems. The company will also invest in AI-driven product development and customer analytics to strengthen global competitiveness.
Concerns Over Job Cuts
Labor unions and employee representatives have voiced concern over the large-scale layoffs, warning that automation could lead to rising unemployment in the sector. Nestlé, however, stated that it plans to retrain affected workers for roles related to digital operations and AI maintenance.
