ICC Launches ‘Test 20’ Format
The International Cricket Council (ICC) has officially unveiled a new hybrid format named “Test 20”, marking one of the most significant innovations in modern cricket. The format is designed to merge the tactical depth of Test cricket with the energy and pace of the shorter formats.
Format Details and Objectives
Under the new rules, each team will play two innings of 20 overs, allowing a mix of long-format strategy and explosive batting. Matches will last around five hours, making them more appealing to television audiences and stadium viewers.
Balancing Tradition and Modern Appeal
According to ICC officials, the aim is to make cricket more inclusive and engaging for the younger generation while keeping the spirit of Test cricket alive. The board also confirmed that pilot matches will be held later this year to assess audience response.
