Faisalabad  (Asal Pakistan News) – The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has announced that it will not extend the deadline for filing income tax returns for Tax Year 2025 (July 1, 2024, to June 30, 2025). Taxpayers are urged to submit their returns via the IRIS portal by September 30, 2025. Unlike previous years, FBR has taken a strict stance, warning that no further extensions will be granted.

According to FBR guidelines, deadlines vary by taxpayer type. Individuals, freelancers, and Associations of Persons (AOPs) must file by September 30, 2025, while companies with a standard financial year ending June 30 have until December 31, 2025. Companies and AOPs with a special tax year must file by September 30, 2025. Online filing through Form 114(1) may, in some cases, allow an extension until October 31, 2025.

Consequences of Late Filing Failure to file by the deadline will result in penalties under Section 205 of the Income Tax Ordinance, 2001, including a minimum fine of PKR 20,000–40,000 and a 0.1% monthly default surcharge. Late filers will also be removed from the Active Taxpayers List (ATL), leading to higher withholding taxes on property and vehicle transactions. ATL status offers benefits like reduced tax rates and compliance with IMF budgetary requirements.
